Job Summary:

The Head Start Lead Teacher in Training is a pre-professional training / teaching position that reports directly to Classroom Supervisors and under the mentorship of a HS Lead Teacher. The purpose of the Teacher in Training is to gain the Head Start and Vermont credential and skills to implement high quality caregiving for preschoolers in a center-based setting. Rutland County Head Start Lead Teacher provides effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment and promote children's progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate. Mentoring of a Lead Teacher and Supervision from Classroom Team Supervisor, the Teacher in Training will plan/prepare activities in accordance with the Creative Curriculum, incorporating the Head Start Program Performance Standards and VT licensing.

Responsibilities:

• Under the mentorship of a Lead Teacher and Classroom Supervisors plans, implements and documents a comprehensive child development program for preschoolers.
• Under supervision and direction fulfills primary caregiver role and support child interaction, responsive interactions.
• Participates in the development of child focused goals in partnership with families, adheres to timelines and coordinates center/home visits with each family.
• Ensures Agency's full compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and Vermont State Licensing Requirements.

Educational Requirements & Experience:

• Must obtain an AA degree within three years of hire. This is in conjunction with a waiver from OHS.
• Experience in a center or home-based setting is preferred.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet families' needs and be reliable and dependable.
• Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation with personal automobile liability insurance coverage at or above the levels mandated by the State of Vermont.
• *Successful completion of a criminal history background check after hire.
