Part-Time Cook

Rutland County Head Start is looking for a Part-Time Cook to join our team!

Head Start is a federally-funded, national child and family development program which provides comprehensive services for pregnant women, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include leadership and social service supports.

About the Role:

The position's primary responsibility is to aid the Kitchen Supervisor and/or Assistant Cook at the Meadow Street building for a Head Start/Early Head Start/Childcare program serving children ages Birth to 5. The Assistant Cook also makes daily deliveries of prepared foods using their personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed) to offsite locations in the Rutland area. The Assistant Cook may also perform light custodial duties at the Meadow Street building, such as public areas of the building, bathrooms and hallways.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily preparation of food for breakfast, lunch and snack in accordance with the standardized menu and individual child food requirements.
  • Assist to maintain the kitchen in a sanitary and safe condition which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Daily washing and sanitizing of all used food service items
    • Daily rubbish removal
    • Daily sweeping and moping of floor
    • Daily hot food temperature checks as appropriate
    • Weekly temperature check of refrigerators and freezers
    • Monthly cleaning of refrigerators, freezers, stoves, ovens and other appliances as needed
    • Monthly cleaning of cabinets and shelves
  • Deliver meals to offsite location(s) using personal vehicle.
  • Assist the Lead Cook to develop and implement standardized menus in conformance with regulations.
  • Assist Lead Cook in ordering food service and cleaning supplies.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Applicant must be able to work 10:30am-2:30pm Monday through Friday.
  • Ability to climb stairs with food and/or supplies.
  • First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certified.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation with personal automobile liability insurance coverage at or above the levels mandated by the State of Vermont.
  • *Successful completion of a criminal history background check after hire.
